For thirty years the cross-over steps of Rijkswaterstaat. at the crash barriers have been a standing part of Dutch highway architecture. This allows a person to step over the crash barrier and to reach an escape door or an emergency telephone.

The product

The steps, supported by a railing, have been designed for easy access by the user to reach the other side of the barrier for access to an escape door or an emergency telephone. At the same time these steps should easily give way if a car collides with, or glances along the crash barrier so as to limit damage and injury to passengers.

As of 1 July 2017 the 3.350 emergency telephones that are situated along Dutch highways at about every mile, will have been removed. The barrier cross-overs however will remain in place !
