Medicatiebewaking met de Adhaler for Evalan

Design brief

Evalan technology enables real-time remote monitoring for medication. User medication behaviour can be improved by, for example, sending an SMS reminder at the time of medication. The Adhaler can help with this.

The result is a solution that benefits both patients and healthcare professionals. Each patient's adherence can be accurately determined. This allows healthcare professionals to guide and support the patient more effectively. Working from existing behaviour, improvement in the adherence pattern is achieved.

Evalan wished to make this technology universally applicable with a holder for inhalation dispensers. Due to the short time-to-market, the production of a series of 500 units within 3 months was necessary. WeLLDesign made this possible thanks to its extensive experience in the development of plastic products and its close collaboration with manufacturers in China.

Product Development of the Adhaler

WeLLDesign also achieved a low investment in moulds, thus the desired low cost price for a relatively small series. The first series was delivered within six weeks. The parts were produced by injection moulding with steel moulds and multiple cavities. The development of medical devices is nothing new for WeLLDesign, after all.

De Evalan Adhaler

The Adhaler is suitable for five different aerosol medications, has integrated measurement and communication electronics, and a spring mechanism which adjusts to the dispenser’s height, ensuring impeccable medication registration.

Making it possible to remind patients of their medication using methods that utilise real-time measurement data. For example, a patient can be reminded via text message, with text messages only being sent when the patient actually forgets their medication. This method proves to be very effective.

There are three factors that actually lead to higher therapy adherence: Better insights into behaviour, more targeted guidance, automatic reminders

Groundbreaking

  • Remote monitoring of medication use by patients
  • Accurate insight into medication use
  • SMS messages to remind patients of intake, which are only sent when the patient forgets to take it
