Changing room 'TurnAround' for Bureau Dwars
What is it?
The TurnAround is a changing facility for the cycling commuter. The transition from casual to professional and vice versa is often a struggle. Where can I change? This is often not facilitated in a way that is perceived as comfortable.
Design brief
Bureau Dwars, run by Yvonne Driessen, gets ideas moving and anticipates changes in the environment. She came up with the idea of making commuting easier and more convenient for cycling commuters. To further develop this, she engaged WeLLDesign. This led to the development of the TurnAround: a compact changing and freshening-up facility that facilitates the transition from casual or sporty to formal, and vice versa. With this, WeLLDesign and Bureau Dwars aim to encourage cycling, thereby contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable world. Because the more people cycle to their destination, the fewer cars there will be on the road. And a sportier and healthier lifestyle.
The workshop
A workshop was organised to determine what requirements and wishes such a changing and freshening-up facility should meet. Stakeholders from various sectors, including the province, the cyclists' union, and Nature & Environment, were present to provide their input in order to arrive at a more complete design. We call that co-creation.
Careful preparation with a presentation, visual aids, post-it notes, and of course food and drink ensured a flawless session. A professional from WeLLDesign led the workshop with support from colleagues.
Workshop to determine the right image
Various ideation techniques were applied in an ordered sequence. Starting with an energiser to loosen everyone up, followed by a purge in which we found out why a selection of existing changing rooms and locations are unsuitable to be labelled as a TurnAround. By doing this first, various requirements and wishes were already identified. After this, ideas could be generated for different aspects of the TurnAround. In which situations will the TurnAround be wanted for? What will the customer journey look like? And what must the TurnAround comply with to bring added value to this customer journey?
