Laboratory device ‘Vitrobot’ for Thermo Fisher
About Thermo Fisher
The Vitrobot from Thermo Fisher (formerly FEI Company) is a laboratory device developed by Maastricht Instruments. The Vitrobot is used to create vitrified samples for use in electron microscopy. Thermo Fisher launched the Vitrobot in combination with its electron microscopes.
The Vitrobot
Maastricht Instruments, which for the first generations of Vitrobots primarily focused on technical functionality, also wanted to perfect the design. They asked WeLLDesign to design an ergonomically optimal form that aligns with the design language of Thermo Fisher. All this within the constraints for small production runs of the lab equipment.
Our motivated team did User research from the Vitrobot, formulated the ergonomic requirements and studied the design language of Thermo Fisher. With this, we developed design concepts, with which we realised the final design of the lab apparatus. The choice fell on vacuum forming and sheet metal processing; this was due to the production numbers.
‘The Vitrobot is taking the market by stormFrans Smeets, Head of IDEE at the UM Faculty of Health, Medicine & Life Sciences.
MuScan
MuScan: Super fast detection of bacteria, developed by CCM and designed by WeLLDesign. MuScan .
This device is very robust for both transport and repeated use, resistant to impact and has a small footprint. It therefore fits in practically anywhere in the laboratory. Useful for data transfer.
