Public Space Trade Fair
On 5 and 6 October 2022, TreeHold hun new heat mat against chestnut bleeding disease at the Vakbeurs Openbare Ruimte in the Jaarbeurs Utrecht. WeLLDesign has been engaged by agro-biotech company Treehold to further develop the heat mat for the thermal treatment of chestnut bleeding disease. TreeHold is now exhibiting this new heat mat at stand 2.3.41 at the Vakbeurs Openbare Ruimte.
Further development by WeLLDesign
WeLLDesign has further developed the mat into a product that:
- mass-producing is with a reproducible quality,
- easy to transport and store,
- easier to attach the tree.
The heating mat is now ergonomically sound: it is lighter, requires less labour, and is easier to install.
The TreeHold Method©: when nature needs help
The TreeHold-methode© is a sustainable, safe, practical, and rapid method for improving the health of diseased chestnut trees. TreeHold aims to make the world permanently greener. With its heat treatment mat, TreeHold makes a significant contribution to this ambition. The method has been validated and is monitored by various European universities, including Wageningen University & Research and the University of Bologna.
Chestnut tree disease? Here's the solution.
Many chestnut trees suffer from a persistent and infectious bacterium, the Pseudomonas syringae. This infects the bark and causes a bleeding disease. The bacterium hinders the transport of nutrients, which reduces the tree's sap flow and makes the tree sick.
This bleeding disease is very threatening to chestnut trees. Most horse chestnuts succumb to it. A heat treatment is currently the only method to halt the disease. The TreeHold-method© consists of wrapping the tree with the heat mat. The bark of the diseased tree is briefly heated using infrared. A kind of fever therapy, which ensures that the disease-causing bacterium is rendered harmless. The tree is thus freed from the pathogenic bacterium as much as possible and then, as it were, gets the chance to overgrow the infection and have sufficient time to recover.
Before and after the tree treatment, samples are taken and assessed by Wageningen University. Research now indicates that the number of bacteria decreases significantly after treatment and that the trees are recovering. This ensures the tree is preserved for the city and remains a defining feature of the streetscape.
Public Space Trade Fair
At the Public Space Trade Fair, you'll find everything relating to the design and management of sustainable and circular public spaces.
Mobility is playing an increasingly prominent role as part of the public domain. Therefore, from 2022, the Mobility Trade Fair will take place simultaneously and at the same location as the Public Domain Trade Fair. You can visit both trade fairs with a single entry ticket.
