TurnAround nominated

The TurnAround has been voted into the top 10 best entries in the competition ‘The Cycle Path of the Future’This nomination gives WeLLDesign and Bureau Dwars a chance for further development in the form of a pilot: three out of the top 10 will be chosen for further development.

The TurnAround concept, a changing and freshen-up facility, facilitates the transition from casual to formal and vice versa. So, hop on your bike, even to work or a party, without any clothing dilemmas. By encouraging cycling, Bureau Dwars and WeLLDesign contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable world.

The TurnAround has been chosen as one of the top ten from 59 entries. The entries were judged on six assessment criteria: (1) feasibility, (2) flow, safety and comfort, (3) environmental experience, (4) stimulating more cycling, (5) innovation and technology, and (6) sustainability.

A commission from the province of Utrecht and Battle of Concepts has selected a top 10 in four steps.

WeLLDesign and Bureau Dwars began a feasibility study for the TurnAround concept in 2019 and also received a grant under MIT-feasibility for this! Part of the study was a workshop facilitated by WeLLDesign on 22 January, where we enriched the concept with a dozen stakeholders from, among others, the province, cycling association, and Nature & Environment. WeLLDesign and Bureau Dwars would therefore like to thank all workshop participants for their contribution to this success!

The competition for ‘The Cycle Path of the Future’ is seeking innovations to make cycling along the N225 more attractive and therefore smoother, safer, and more comfortable, while also taking the landscape and road safety into account. The province of Utrecht has renamed the cycle route between Utrecht and Wageningen, which largely runs alongside the N225, to ‘The Cycle Path of the Future’. It is an important route for recreational use, commuting, and schoolchildren, measuring a total of 28 kilometres in length.

Municipalities, the Province of Utrecht, businesses and civil society organisations are collaborating and thus taking responsibility for innovations to stimulate cycling, thereby contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable world.
