A beautiful design: Dutch Design with GIO recognition
ZaaK® was designed by industrial design agency WeLLDesign. It is a beautiful design. At Dutch Design Week 2020, it received the GIO recognition for ‘Good Industrial Design’ (Goed Industrieel Ontwerp). Not only ZaaK®, but also the DCU – ZaaK®’s climate system designed by WeLLDesign in collaboration with the manufacturer Tegnis – received GIO recognition a year earlier, in 2019. This too features a sleek design and modern look.
Dutch Designers Yearbook 2020
ZaaK® has been selected for the Dutch Designers Yearbook 2020 because it has received the GIO recognition and because it demonstrates the entrepreneurship to respond directly to the need for a healthy and sustainable home workplace.

People who choose ZaaK® value the design as well as the functionality. ‘Rugged’, ‘desirable’ and ‘nice and compact’, said the first buyers when viewing and entering the first production prototype that has been in Alkmaar since January.
Production has started!
The first advert introducing WeLLDesign ZaaK®, which appeared in the FD Persoonlijk Magazine on 17 October 2020, led to a flood of enquiries and expressions of interest. ZaaK® went into production in January 2021.
Design agency WeLLDesign and Losberger De Boer, a global provider of space solutions, have formed the joint venture ZaaK® B.V. for this purpose. WeLLDesign is contributing its expertise in the industrial design of mass-produced products and its experience in construction innovation. Losberger De Boer is contributing its know-how in the field of manufacturing ready-to-use accommodation units.
A demonstration prototype: the first ZaaK®
During the week of 20 January, the first ZaaK® buyers visited a demonstration prototype at the Losberger De Boer production hall. “It feels good inside. It’s a surprisingly pleasant and welcoming space,” was a comment heard repeatedly.
A pleasant working environment
The ZaaK® design is intended to enable people to work comfortably and undisturbed. It is comfortable because the interior of the space feels very pleasant. This was confirmed by visitors to the demonstration prototype. The climate control system, the large glass façade providing a connection to the outdoors and letting in natural light, and the sound-absorbing roof system all offer significant health benefits.
Comfort and health
A healthy and dust-free indoor environment is essential for good concentration. That is why ZaaK® is fitted with the DCU climate control system, which continuously ventilates the room using fresh air only. This unit extracts the ‘stale’ air, extracts the heat from it via an ingenious heat exchanger, and transfers that heat to the fresh air. The stale air does not come into contact with the fresh air. So it’s COVID-safe. The incoming fresh air is practically the same temperature as the outgoing air. As a result, you feel absolutely no draught. On cold days, the ‘boost function’ temporarily blows in air at a higher temperature. This provides extra comfort.
The sensors in the DCU measure the climate inside the ZaaK® and use this data to control the ventilation and heating. All the user has to do is set the desired temperature on the control screen. This gives you the most advanced and healthy climate control system ‘on the spot’, delivering comfort, sustainability and convenience.
Furthermore, the DCU not only ensures a continuous supply of fresh outside air, but is also fitted with an ioniser for air purification. This ioniser removes even the smallest particles from the air. In addition to dust particles, bacteria, mould, viruses and pollen are also removed and/or deactivated. This creates a healthy indoor climate, which in turn improves concentration. This unique climate control system operates virtually silently.
Contact with the outside world
Contact with the outdoors is important. It reduces work-related stress and has a positive effect on self-discipline and self-control. Research also shows that a view of greenery has a calming effect. The façade-spanning glass front of ‘brings light and greenery indoors’. ZaaK®’s motto is therefore: working from home is simply a matter of course.
Daylight entry
Daylight is natural light characterised by constant changes in colour and intensity. Sufficient daylight has a beneficial effect on people’s health; insufficient daylight is detrimental.
The attractive LED lighting, which matches the design, is adjustable in colour and light intensity. When it gets dark outside, you can adjust the standard LED lighting for extra comfort and a positive experience.
ZaaK® is energy-saving and safe
The glass façade is fitted with energy-saving HR++ glass. The inner pane consists of double-laminated safety glass. Furthermore, the heat exchanger in the DCU in ZaaK® has an efficiency of up to 90%. Combined with the excellently insulated circular walls, roof and floor, this ensures maximum energy savings. This also reduces costs and limits CO₂ emissions. ZaaK® offers high-quality thermal and acoustic insulation. The inclusion of a thermal break in the anthracite-powder-coated aluminium façade prevents condensation.
Circular and sustainable
ZaaK® is therefore not only a stylish design and a ‘home office pod’ offering plenty of comfort and convenience, but also a sustainable product. In all its designs, WeLLDesign works towards lower CO₂ emissions – in other words, reducing the carbon footprint. Its sustainability lies primarily in the long technical lifespan of all the components used, the minimal energy consumption, the ventilation system with heat recovery, and the circularity of the materials employed. Its lifespan is comparable to that of a house, so at least around 40 years.
The pitch of the ZaaK® pent roof makes it well suited to a green sedum roof. Solar panels can be installed.
Maintenance-free
ZaaK® is completely maintenance-free. It does not even require regular repainting. Routine maintenance consists solely of light cleaning. The supplied DCU does not require filters that need to be replaced regularly, as it utilises smart materials and fine-particle removal technology. The glass façade is easy to clean.
Noise reduction
The excellent sound insulation ensures that working in ZaaK® is particularly comfortable. Noise pollution can, after all, have a significant negative impact on well-being and productivity. This is not an issue in this garden office. ZaaK® uses recyclable rock wool in the roof. The use of rock wool in the distinctive pent roof not only provides excellent thermal insulation but also reduces airborne and impact noise, ensuring optimum sound insulation in the space below. This is because the open structure of rock wool provides a maximum absorption surface for sound waves. As a result, a rain or hail shower is transformed from a wild roar into a soothing patter.
(Semi-)permanent, dismantlable and easy to move again
The garden office can be placed on any surface; it has no specific requirements regarding the ground and does not require any special preparation. All you need is a reasonably level area large enough for your ZaaK®, exactly where you want it. ZaaK® is plug and play It is delivered ready for use on the day of delivery. The garden office comes fully equipped with high-quality technical installations and features plenty of built-in sockets. It can be easily dismantled and moved to a new location. Truly a ZaaK®!
Multifunctional
ZaaK® is multifunctional. It is primarily designed as a workspace – a lovely home office or, if you prefer, a garden office. But the space can just as easily serve as a showroom, meeting room, practice room, garden room, studio, guest house, guest bedroom, youth club, ‘man cave’ or ‘women’s cave’, writing retreat, relaxation room, hobby room or games room. Whatever you’d like to use your ZaaK® for, that’s entirely up to you!
Not a car, but a company-owned ZaaK®
An employee may submit a request to their employer for a ZaaK® from the company. The employer may purchase the garden office. It will then remain the property of the employer, with whom the user may agree to take over the ZaaK® at the end of the depreciation period at its residual value.
