Marriott International to acquire CitizenM for $355 million
Lifestyle pioneer CitizenM joins the world's largest hotel group. Marriott International has announced the acquisition of the Dutch hotel chain CitizenM for a sum of 355 million dollars. This move strengthens Marriott's position in the growing lifestyle segment and adds an innovative, design-focused player to its portfolio.
From Schiphol to the top of the world
CitizenM was founded in 2008 by Rattan Chadha, former owner of fashion brand Mexx. With a groundbreaking hotel concept – smart, compact rooms, self-service check-in and atmospheric living room lobbies – CitizenM quickly gained international traction. The chain now has 36 hotels in global cities such as Amsterdam, London, Paris, New York and Singapore.
