Peter Komen joins WeLLDesign as Commercial Manager
WeLLDesign welcomes Peter Komen as the new Commercial Manager. With his broad commercial background and years of experience in product development and entrepreneurship, he is a very good addition to our team. We asked him a few questions to get to know him better:
You don't have a typical design background. How did you get started?
“I once studied at the Middle School for Retail. After that, I started as a service engineer at a company that made cash register systems. After a year and a half, I noticed my interest lay more with sales. From that moment on, I have always been involved in sales, until I joined CE Masters in 2000.”
Was that the moment you first got involved with product development?
“Exactly. I worked with engineers and projects there, and saw how ideas are translated into concrete solutions. That really sparked my interest in product development.”
You later started your own business. What did that bring you?
“In 2007, I started Pi Development. That was a great adventure. You are responsible for everything, not just sales but also strategy, finance and everything that entails. That helps me now, as I have a good understanding of what clients are dealing with, from their initial query to the final realisation. After 17 years, I called it a day in 2024 and consciously took time to look ahead.”
And then WeLLDesign came back into your life again?
“Yes, and that felt quite logical. Mathijs and I have known each other since 2001 and we've worked together before. The way WeLLDesign works aligns well with how I view customer collaboration myself.”
What appeals to you most about product development?
“The process from idea to product. You start with a problem and work step by step towards something tangible. Something that not only works technically, but which the customer and the end-user can truly benefit from.”
You say ‘the right product’ instead of ‘good design’. Why?
“Because ‘good’ means something different to everyone. The key is that the product is right: that it meets the customer's needs and is suitable for the application. By listening carefully and collaborating, you arrive at a solution that truly works in practice.”
You'll primarily focus on the commercial side. Is that what energises you?
“Certainly. Contact with customers, understanding their issues, and working together towards a feasible solution, that's what energises me.”
With the acquisition by Multifix, there also appears to be greater ambition.
“Absolutely. Where we handle the development process, Multifix can then realise the product. This allows us to offer clients a complete path, from idea to a manufacturable product. That makes the process clearer and more efficient.”
Looking ahead, where do you want to go with WeLLDesign?
“That we continue to grow in projects, team and expertise, and that clients know exactly what they can approach us for. As a partner who thinks along and helps to actually turn ideas into a good product.”
When do you go home satisfied at the end of the day?
“Once we have translated a customer's request into the right end result. This could be a product, but just as easily well-founded advice or a feasibility study to help a customer move forward.”
We enthusiastically welcome Peter to our team and look forward to a great collaboration!
