The rooftop hood from Nijburg, designed by WeLLDesign: now on sale

WeLLDesign ontwierp voor Nijburg Industry Group a renewed combi-rooftop hood the air inlet and outlet combined without air bypassing. The existing models were technically outdated; the new version needed to be more modern, efficient, and durable.

One of the products that WeLLDesign designed in this series, the BDCN, is a Asymmetrical design with a higher blow-off tower, causing air to be discharged vertically and drawn in horizontally. This prevents mixing of air currents. The hood contains a patented rainwater drainage system that water exhausts via the aluminium uprights, even in heavy rainfall.

The rooftop hood BDHN model is suitable for both air intake and exhaust. The rooftop hood has a compact height whilst maintaining the same footprint, which can be beneficial for sightlines. Rainwater on the hood is drained internally at the corners, ensuring that no water is drawn in through the grilles during air intake.

The rooftop hood BDVN model is designed for vertical air discharge. The rooftop hood has a compact height whilst maintaining the same footprint, which can be beneficial for sightlines. The rooftop hood is fitted with a rainwater collection element which drains water via the base frame to the roof.

The rooftop hood BDCN design unit is designed for horizontal air intake and vertical air discharge. The rooftop hood has a compact height whilst maintaining the same footprint, which can be beneficial for sightlines. The vertical discharge section is fitted with a rainwater collection element which, together with the remaining roof section, drains water internally via the corners. This ensures that no water is drawn in through the grilles at the intake section. As the discharge section is positioned higher than the intake section, air short-circuiting is minimised.

The main features:

  • Best possible dilution factor, meets ventilation standard NEN 1087.
  • Vertical exhaust and horizontal intake.
  • Modern and modular design, intake and outlet also available in separate parts.
  • Integrated and patented rainwater drainage.
  • Performance comparable to competitor units.
  • Full aluminium + powder coating for durability and aesthetics.

About the project

The design process included digital simulations and prototypes to optimise airflow and rainwater drainage. The hood is entirely made of aluminium, which ensures strength, corrosion resistance, recyclability and ease of production.

The design — with rounded corners and clean lines — aligns with Nijburg’s brand identity and gives the hood a modern, high-quality look and feel.

The result is a sustainable, low-maintenance, and future-proof product which excels both technically and aesthetically, contributing to a healthier indoor climate and a more sustainable building environment.
