These barriers represent a \u2018classic\u2019 that was developed by WeLL Design for the Department of Highways  in the \u201890s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.welldesign.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/A4-open-zuidkade-671-x-451.jpg\" alt=\"a4-open-zuidkade-671-x-451\" class=\"wp-image-3784\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Plans for the \u2018missing\u2019 stretch of highway between Delft and Schiedam date from the \u201850s of the last century. Construction of the highway seemed to start at the end of the \u201860s when the sandy groundworks were laid. Fierce and continuing environmental protests halted ongoing contruction in the \u201870s.
